Hanno encapsulates everything that is great about surfing! He learned to surf in the mecca of Hawaii (helped by the fact he is a three x world champion snake-boarder) and having taken on their true spirit of the ocean he is very rarely seen on land. Hanno has ran surf schools in Brazil, Morrocco, Hawaii and Spain, he is one of the most experienced surfing instructors in Ireland. Hanno has been instrumental in setting up Alive’s Autism program and is currently working on making surfing more inclusive for people with physical disabilities.
When not in the water surfing Hanno loves to go freediving, surfing big waves (he is part of Al Mennies big wave team) and enjoys hanging out with his beautiful family.
Always smiling and in good form – that’s Hannah for you, every day. Hannah started surfing with us years ago and gained a lot of experience during lessons as a lifeguard with us. Now, Hannah is our main instructor with a great talent of passing on her passion and knowledge of surfing to her friends and everyone coming to us for a lesson.
Where to begin with Stevie? He is quite a legend having played for Ulster Rugby on the international stage where he took part in the European Cup and was on the first full time Irish professional squad. Naturally he is in charge of your warm-up :). Stevie is also one of the most experienced watermen on the North Coast with many years of experience as a volunteer RNLI lifeboat crew member. As such he is instrumental for our motto: Have fun and be safe!
Robin is our guest surf instructor from Switzerland with many talents. Starting off as a passionate Snowboarder he fell in love with surfing when he jumped into the water with a surfboard during a road trip in Florida. Since then he kept on travelling and surfing around the world. Robin is now an experienced surfer and has found a taste for bigger waves during his stay with us on the North Coast where he enjoys carving on mountains of water.
When Patrick started surfing with us it was obvious that he is very talented. He quickly progressed to become an experienced stylish surfer with a great understanding of ocean safety and beach awareness. He has now been our main safety support as a beach lifeguard over the last years and will soon be a qualified surf instructor ready to lead groups.
When you arrive for your lesson or if you want to hire surf equipment, Josh and Meg are quite likely the first point of contact who will welcome you, answer your questions and get you sorted. Whenever Josh can’t be found at the van there is one spot where he loves to hang out with his friends – The Blue Pool in Portrush, a brilliant location to dive off rocks into deep water. There are rumours that he is working on a sensational new flip for the summer.
Along with Josh, Meg is probably the first point of contact to welcome you, answer your questions and get you sorted, which she always does with a big smile – being Hannah’s sister and Stevie’s daughter that smile comes from the heart. Meg is training to become a qualified beach lifeguard so we will see more of her in the water soon 🙂
